Rudy was born in Hamtramck Michigan. He was a high school All-American and attended the University of Michigan where he was an All-American. Rudy was the second pick in the 1970 NBA draft. He played 11 years in the NBA and was a five-time All-Star. He later became an assistant coach for the Houston Rockets and was promoted to head coach. He won two world championships, one in 1994 and another the next year 1995. He was also the head coach of the USA Olympic basketball team who won a Gold Medal in Sydney Australia in 2000.
